About
With over three decades of experience in software development, I've navigated through various realms of technology, from my early endeavors in video game programming for the TI-85 in high school to pioneering real-time graphics engines during my college years.
My journey commenced at the age of 12 when I penned my first program in BASIC, igniting a passion that would propel me through the realms of computer science. By 15, I had authored my inaugural video game and ventured into 13h programming, an early foray into graphics and gaming development. In college, my enthusiasm for computer science flourished as I honed my skills in 3D modeling, vectors, and graphics, culminating in the creation of a 3D rendering engine and a real-time demo inspired by the demoscene of the 90s. Notably, I graduated a year early with a 3.9 GPA and a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, a testament to my drive, dedication, and hard work.
Embarking on my professional journey, I had the incredible opportunity to join Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), fulfilling a lifelong dream of contributing to Hollywood's most iconic films. Flying out for an interview months before graduation, I was thrilled to receive an offer to work on groundbreaking projects like Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Rocky & Bullwinkle, The Perfect Storm, and Men in Black 2, where my contributions earned me a place in film credits, marking a significant milestone in my career in computer graphics.
However, as my time at ILM progressed, I felt a growing desire for new challenges and opportunities. This led me to consider other paths, including an enticing offer from Squaresoft in Hawaii to work on the renowned Final Fantasy film project with some of my colleagues from ILM. Despite the allure of contributing to such an esteemed franchise, I yearned to explore new horizons in the realm of low-level graphics development.
Ultimately, I decided to join ATI Research, a leading graphic card company, where I delved into writing software to showcase their fledging set-top box. I was given the freedom to showcase the capabilities of their hardware, leading me to construct a lightweight physics and 3D engine and craft various demos. Among my favorites was the creation of a realistic cloth flag simulation, dynamically animated in real-time to mimic the effect of wind, with live video mapped onto it as a texture. This endeavor involved modeling a sophisticated spring system, a feat particularly notable given that graphics cards at the time lacked native support for such simulations.
Fueled by a thirst for new challenges and a sense of fulfillment in the realm of computer graphics, I made the transition to the world of business applications. Here, as a full-stack developer, I honed my skills and expertise. From architecting applications for Fortune 500 companies, crafting bespoke solutions for small businesses, to creating applications for government, I've journeyed across the spectrum of software development.
My career journey has been a tapestry of diverse experiences, each contributing to my growth as a seasoned software developer. However, it was during my tenure at Southern Wine & Spirits (SWS) where I truly honed my craft and solidified my expertise as a full-stack developer for business software. As a key member of the team, I undertook the monumental task of architecting and developing their Sales-Force Automation (SFA) tool from the ground up. This mission-critical application served as the backbone of their operations, processing tens of thousands of orders daily from both their on-premise and off-premise sales teams across the country. This experience not only sharpened my technical skills but also instilled in me a deep understanding of the intricate workflows and complexities inherent in large-scale business operations.
Moreover, my time at SWS provided me with invaluable opportunities for collaboration and growth. I had the privilege of working closely with various teams within the organization, including a stint at Hewlett Packard, where I collaborated with a team of their consultants. These collaborative endeavors allowed me to navigate complex technical landscapes, tackle multifaceted challenges, and deliver comprehensive solutions tailored to the specific needs of one of the largest distributors of wine, beer, and spirits in America. This formative experience served as a cornerstone in my career, shaping me into the seasoned software developer I am today.
Building on this foundation, my tenure at NaviNet further expanded my skill set and expertise. Here, I gained valuable insights into project management methodologies, including agile practices, while leveraging technologies like XML/XSLT and SAML to seamlessly integrate applications with various healthcare insurance networks such as Blue Cross, United, and Aetna. These experiences not only solidified my expertise in software development but also equipped me with the tools to tackle the complex challenges inherent in working for multi-billion dollar companies.
Transitioning from the corporate landscape to a startup environment, my time at Poliquin Group, a renowned fitness and supplement company, provided me with invaluable lessons in adaptability and innovation. Assuming a leadership role, I spearheaded the design, development, and implementation of in-house and public-facing solutions. Here, in a dynamic small-team setting, I mastered the art of wearing multiple hats, relying on my expertise to architect and deliver solutions that met the diverse needs of the business. This included the comprehensive rewrite of their flagship software and the meticulous maintenance of their e-commerce website in Magento, where I developed serveral plugins to address unique business challenges.
Prior to my tenure at Poliquin Group, I honed my craft at Bonsai Logic, a prominent public sector SAAS software company and consulting firm. Here, I was entrusted with architecting and developing applications for a diverse clientele, ranging from public institutions to private corporations. Notable achievements include my contributions to an in-house web application for Verizon and the development of a suite of SaaS modules tailored to streamline the daily operations of small towns.
In my journey as a software developer, my expertise spans a myriad of technologies, including .NET, C#, MVC, Web API, JavaScript, SQL Server, and more. Adept at leveraging technology to solve intricate problems and propel business growth, I'm committed to delivering software solutions that surpass expectations. With a blend of technical expertise, creativity, and dedication, I look forward to continuing my journey in software development, pushing boundaries, and shaping the future of technology.
